If the ISU was to ban men from competing in the sport it would be an Olympic event. The ISU doesn’t want to unfairly omit men from competing (and rightly so) so the ISU & the IOC are at a stalemate. We will have to settle for having the World Synchro event.
The reason why it isn’t an Olympic sport as yet is not because of its lack of popularity. According to the IOC–Its because men are allowed to participate in the event, and this could be deemed an advantage. If all teams were to have a requisite number of men (ie-two) then it would be deemed fair by the IOC. So basically all teams have to have the same number of guys or no guys at all, or it will not become an Olympic sport.
I had a discussion about this a few days ago and my friend and I decided that 1. It would cost lots of money 2. It’s not super popular yet 3. It just doesn’t look as impressive on TV so it would only look as amazing as it is to the people right in front of it, but we also decided that considering that they took womens hockey out of the olympics that synchro could easily replace it! We should start a petition or go to the Olympic council or something!
By putting synchro skating in the olympics will dramatically increase its popularity and profile within the sporting world, we would see a huge increase in the level of skating and skill level of each team if this was to happen. Its a crime that this amazing sport is not an olympic sport already!!
It makes me so angry that ISU are favouring “team” skating over synchronized skating for the olympics!! Yea maybe synchro skating is not as ‘developed’ as other sports in the olympics but it attracts a HUGE crowd and creates a great atmospshere as people cheer for their favourite teams and support their countries. Figure skating is already an olympic sport and to make it into a team sport is the most stupid idea I have ever heard.
Synchro skating should definitely be in the olympics!!! Please sign our petition for it to be in the olympics! go to change.org and search synchro, and my petition will show up!
God bless the person who made this video !! Still waiting for Synchronized Skating at Olympics ! They say a Synchronized Skating team is too expensive ? But how do our clubs do during season to find money for our teams ? Synchronized Skaters proved that their passion IS a REAL sport so now prove to these skaters they are right !!

This is great – and my audio wasn’t even working! You absolutely illustrated the points that 1) synchro is skating 2)synchro is an international sport 3)synchro brings FANS and excitement!
I am totally on board with this idea. Anything synchronized has to me that much more precise and ten times harder. Adding the collaboration/sychronization component means it has to be PERFECT or all can tell when it is not.

There are actually more men on senior teams than any other level but i see what your trying to say there are only like maybe 10 men on all the teams combined aha
Agree with mpf1953. Too many people competing, it would be a nightmare in every way at the Olympics. Also, hardly any men do it. It’s so not cool to put a sport into the Olympics when it’s not equal and there are almost no men involved. Anyway, there’s enough skating at the Olympics as it is.

Great video and very compelling. But synchro involves too many people to fit into the Olympics. You bring in a 16 person team for at most 7 minutes of competition. Synchro swimming has 8 person teams and they also double by competing as pairs and the Summer Olympics is much bigger than the Winter Olympics. The skating venues do not lack for events and the housing is tight. Synchro would not help on the revenue side that much and it would add very much to the costs. Not going to happen.
i think people not knowing what synchro is…makes us kinda special being the select few who actually DO know what this WONDERFUL sport is. If everyone knew…i dont know it would loose its….ooomfph
I think synchro would be very popular if it were in the olympics. Whenever I tell my friends about the sport they say, “What is that?” and then when I show them videos of the world level teams they’re just blown away.
