Fairbanks Summer Arts Festival

It's not too late to sign up and skate at the Fairbanks Summer Arts Festival. Classes are held during Week II only: Monday, July 21st through Saturday, July 26th. Click on the title of this entry to learn more about registration fees, signing up and paying for private lessons in advance, as well as how to download the daily schedule from the Festival's web site. All classes will be in the UAF Patty Center Ice Arena. Skate like the wind!

A board meeting will be held on Thursday, July 17, at the Fairbanks Memorial Hospital Cafeteria. Feel free to download the meeting agenda (PDF: 60Kb). The open forum will begin at 6:30pm and the meeting is scheduled to begin at 7pm. If no one arrives by 6:45pm to participate in the open forum, the meeting will begin at 6:45pm. The 2007-2008 Combined Report of Action is now available for download. The actions contained in this document reflect all business transacted by the U.S. Figure Skating Board of Directors and Governing Council for the 2007-08 season and will be reflected in the 2009 edition of the rulebook.

2008 Governing Council

Ken Papp will be attending Governing Council this year (April 30-May 4). In addition to voting on important issues and attending the section meeting and various breakout sessions, he will be chairing a round table discussion on the effective use of technology and the Web. If any club member wishes to view the issues that will be addressed at GC, feel free to check out the Requests for Action document. Also, any club member wanting more information regarding certain topics/issues should contact Ken Papp after the meeting.

Sourdough/Test Session Committee Meeting Announcement

There will be a Sourdough/Test Session Committee meeting on Thursday, April 24 at 6:30pm at the Big Dipper immediately following the power class. The testing event is a major club function, actually 2 (testing and competition) combined events. We're especially excited because for the first time in Alaska, we're utilizing the new IJS. Dates of testing/competition are June 20 and 21, 2008. Members are encouraged to come to the meeting, see what's involved for the event's preparation, and volunteer at the June event. 2008 Skate-a-thon!

Announcements and forms have been sent out to all Club members for the 2008 Skate-a-thon. The event will take place at the Polar Ice Center on April 27 at 5:30pm. Pizza and refreshments will be provided. There will also be a free fun-skate for everyone, including those who did not participate in the Skate-a-thon. All members are welcome!

Online Club Event Calendar Available

An online FFSC event calendar is now available. Click on the Google Calendar button on the left-hand side of any page on the Club's website. This public, Google Calendar allows anyone to view planned FFSC events, meetings, testing sessions, etc. right from the Club's website. You may also print out a PDF version of the calendar by clicking on the "Print" link in the upper, right-hand portion of the calendar. The Club ice schedule may be added to this calendar in the future. If you have a Google account, you may also add the event to your own Google Calendar by clicking on the event and selecting "Add to Calendar" link. The "More details" link allows you to view a map to the location and add the event to your personal Google Calendar.
